Brainomix Announced as Founder Member of Open Source Imaging Consortium (OSIC)

Oxford, UK, 2nd December 2020

Brainomix today joined the rest of its collaborators at the Open Source Imaging Consortium (OSIC) by congratulating the winners of the recently launched Kaggle Challenge – an AI-focused competition that drew nearly 40,000 entries from more than 2,000 competitors. Administered by Kaggle, the world’s leading data science community platform, the competition was created to predict lung function decline.

Brainomix is a Founder Member of OSIC, a not-for-profit organization that brings together academic institutions, industry partners and philanthropic groups to achieve meaningful advances in the fight against Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF), Interstitial Lung Diseases (ILDs), and other respiratory diseases. With more than 200 phenotypes, ILDs are a broad array of diseases which are often challenging to accurately diagnose.

Dr Peter George is a Consultant Respiratory Physician in the ILD Unit at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London. He recently joined Brainomix as Medical Director for Respiratory. “Pulmonary fibrosis can be challenging to accurately diagnose even for the most experienced clinicians and radiologists. Some forms of ILD including IPF are progressive and result in irreversible lung scarring. The key to achieving the best possible outcomes for our patients is to make an accurate diagnosis at the earliest possible stage and to identify those patients at the highest risk of disease progression. Although we have therapies which have been shown to be effective, inaccurate diagnoses inevitably result in delayed access to the most appropriate treatment. We are excited about the potential that OSIC has, working together as a global collaboration to develop digital biomarkers for accurate imaging-based diagnoses, prognosis and prediction of response to therapy. This represents an opportunity to meaningfully improve outcomes for patients.”

Alongside Brainomix, other members of OSIC include Boehringer Ingelheim, Siemens, Galapagos, a number of world-renowned academic institutions, including National Jewish Health, Heidelberg University Hospital, Université de Lyon, along with organizations such as the American Lung Association and British Lung Foundation.

"We are delighted to welcome the Brainomix team to the Open Source Imaging Consortium. Their history of establishing successful collaborations, and their expertise in AI imaging biomarkers, certainly brings positive momentum to the consortium,” noted Elizabeth Estes, OSIC Executive Director.
