Brainomix announced a partnership with the TIPAL trial group to run a sub-study assessing its e-Lung platform in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). TIPAL — funded by the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) and sponsored by Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals (NNUH) NHS Foundation Trust — is a placebo-controlled, 52-week, multi-centre study evaluating whether lansoprazole, a common medication for indigestion and acid reflux, affects patients with confirmed IPF. Around 298 patients perform home spirometry to measure forced vital capacity (FVC), comparing baseline with 12 months to assess the impact on absolute change in percent predicted FVC. Run in parallel, the Brainomix sub-study uses e-Lung, an AI image-processing tool that standardizes quantification of lung fibrosis on high-resolution CT to better identify patients with progressive fibrosis. At its core is a novel imaging biomarker, the weighted reticulovascular (WRV) score, shown to offer superior prognostic value over traditional measures; the sub-study's primary aim is to determine the difference in WRV change between lansoprazole and placebo.
